Exploring iTunes U and Buying my first non-DRM song on ITunes Plus
iTunes plus, the new service in iTunes where you can buy DRM free music is now up and running in iTunes Japan store. its not available yet in the US store.

The latest single by Utada Hikaru, “Kiss and Cry” is available as a iTunes Plus version. You can buy either DRMed version or the non-DRM version.

The non-DRM version costs around 70 Yen more.

You get an option to upgrade your library to iTunes plus. it searches for previously bought songs and lets you know how many songs are available in Plus and how much it would cost you to upgrade.

Plus songs are encoded in AAC so they play on any device that can play AAC. I copied the song to a PSP and it plays.

Works well on a mobile phone too.
Plus is great but I am more excited about the new ITunes U feature. This part of iTunes features audio and video content from universities in the US.

Earlier, you had to load the iTunes store for each university if you wanted to download the content. Now every thing is available in one place.

The list on the left shows the universities currently offering content. There is some great stuff in here.

Just download this series of videos from MIT called Black Ships and Samurai. The content deals with Japans encounter with the west.
