That quote is from Saint Jack. One of my favorite books about Singapore and South East Asia. You must read this book if you are interested in 1970s Singapore. The movie based on this book was banned until recently in Singapore.Our friendly librarians emailed to inform us of this discussion on Paul Theroux’s Saint Jack.
Seriously, the book is set in Singapore with the full flavours of 1960s Bugis Street, Hilton Hotel, Geylang and the company of mamasans. If time permits, a short screening of the movie will be shown before the book discussion to whet the appetite. Join us for this truly set-in-Singapore movie and book discussion on:

Thanks for disseminating the information on the book discussion for Heartlands Book Club. Heard alot of news of the movie Saint Jack lately? Well it is not available in local stores yet. So I did the next best thing, ordered a personal copy of the dvd from the internet. There will be a short screening of the excerpts of the movie around 15-20 mins before the book discussion. read from Today that Paul Theroux is coming to town and will be having a book signing session thursday at the central library. Around 6.30pm or 7.30pm.. do check with them!
