Cultural Anthropology and Blogs
A couple of months back I was visiting a friend in Malaysia. He was talking about building a new product for people in their late teens. It has been a while since we were in that age group. So the problem was how to get an idea of what the young people are up to (in that particular region or city). We turned to blogs. It was fun reading them. People talk about their school, life in general and more importantly for us - their weekends. And since people blogroll their buddies, we could study the entire ecosystem.
Companies have always hired social/cultural anthropologists to understand their target audience. I wonder if there will be a specialization soon and we will see more blogo-pologists.
