Happy “Rakhi” day

On a train trip in Thailand I saw this boy reading out a comic to his little sister.
This weekend is the festival of Rakhi in India – the sister’s day (or brother’s day). Sisters tie a thread – the Rakhi on their brother’s wrist and then they can scam the brother for some gift. If you don’t have a sister, a neighbor, a cousin or a classmate will tie a Rakhi to you.

Burmese Days - Sunset on the Irawaddy river

Met an old friend from Burma and talked about the burmese days. I miss the mohinga (fish gravy noodles), the tamarind drink, the markets in Yangoon, the crazy borderlands and the sunset by the Irrawady river.

Time for a Tiger

Nabby Adams, supine on the bed, grunted. It was four o’ clock in the morning and he did not want to be talking. He had had a confused coloured dream about Bombay, shot with sharp pangs of unpaid bills. Over it all had brooded thirst, thirst for a warmish bottle of Tiger beer. Or Anchor. Or Carlsberg.
