How to say "I am Vegetarian" in Chinese

One question I get from some of my Indian friends traveling in China (or Taiwan) is about the availability of vegetarian food. Or more importantly, how to indicate to the food establishment that you are vegetarian. This is what you can say - Wo chi(r) su. Literally it means - I eat vegetables. ???? Here is a picture of the characters.

Also, check out this site called Vegetarian China, they have great information on what vegetarian dishes you can order and also a list of vegetarian restaurants in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

A suggestion: Maybe you should put the Pinyin besides or at the top of the characters, too. Good post though.

Is that (r) meant to be silent in Wo chi(r) su? Nice post here for vegetarians who travel a lot. Particularly Indian travelers who are mostly vegetarians by nature. Teach us more of Chinese in order to make them understand better that we are vegetarians. How can we say, "I am a vegetarian" ?
