Missing China with this old book

This one is another of my favorite books. The author was volunteer supply driver in China doing supply runs from the Burma Road in Upper Burma to the interiors of China.

Chongqing in the 1940s. One of the greatest joys of old books is to compare some of my favorite places in China - some places I have stayed in or traveled to in the past years with how they used to be then.

Chongqing
Chongqing today. We are looking up to the river from one of the hills. The river is on the top edge of the picture. You can see the hills clearly in the previous picture. Chongqing is today one of the biggest cities in China (It used to be a part of Sichuan province but now has a mini-province status similar to Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin).

Street side snack vendor.

This is my secret hiding place in China, Shamian Dao in Guangzhou. Britain, France and other western countries had their factories or warehouses here. Before that it used to be an "entertainment island" for the residents of Guangzhou.

Another modern day pic of Shamian Dao.

Old Kunming, not sure which tower it is.

Author’s adventures

I like the last chapter as this is somewhat how I feel when I am not in China. Sniff sniff.

Well said. Now I miss our China even more.
