Happy "Rakhi" day

boy_comic_sis
On a train trip in Thailand I saw this boy reading out a comic to his little sister.
This weekend is the festival of Rakhi in India – the sister’s day (or brother’s day). Sisters tie a thread – the Rakhi on their brother’s wrist and then they can scam the brother for some gift. If you don’t have a sister, a neighbor, a cousin or a classmate will tie a Rakhi to you.

Pokemon-ia has hit the kids in India big time so now we now have aptly themed Rakhis.

Last year, I was explaining the Rakhi to a little friend in China. I showed her some pictures of Rakhi. A few days later she mailed me a Rakhi that she had made. It was a silk thread with some beads and stars from the local craft shop. A simple but lovely Rakhi.

Thanks for visitting my blog :) and Happy Rakhi Day :) Your blog is really interesting because you told stories from different places, that's really cool that you are a traveller :) One day when I can get a long holiday, I wish I could do a backpacking, I can't wait for that day :)
